CRCM\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shingo Fujii<\/h2>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Researcher<\/h4>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our NHEJ homologous recombination and genomic integrity team is committed to studying DNA double-strand break repair mechanisms at the molecular level, in particular homologous recombination and the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway, using a combination of biochemical and cell biology approaches.<\/h2>\n\n<p>A defect in the <strong>detection and repair of DNA double-strand breaks<\/strong> can be at the origin of cancer formation. To better understand this process, our team is studying the molecular mechanisms of the two main repair pathways of these genotoxic lesions: <strong>Homologous Recombination and NHEJ (Non-Homologous End Joining)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>On the other hand, these repair systems enable cancer cells to resist anti-cancer treatments based on radiotherapy or chemotherapy using substances such as mitomycin C or cisplatin. Indeed, the principle of these treatments is to induce the formation of double-strand breaks in the DNA of cancer cells in order to kill them. Homologous recombination and NHEJ are therefore prime targets for devising ways of improving the efficacy of these anti-cancer treatments.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Our team is committed to studying <strong>the mechanisms of DNA double-strand break repair at the molecular level<\/strong>, in particular Homologous Recombination and the Non-Homologous End Joining (NHEJ) pathway, using a combination of biochemical and cell biology approaches.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>We also use &#8216;single molecule&#8217; methods<\/strong> to visualize and monitor the dynamic behavior of proteins involved in the repair process on isolated DNA molecules. For this, we use : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Optical tweezers<\/strong> for attaching and manipulating isolated DNA molecules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fluorescence microscopy<\/strong> for real-time observation of tagged proteins interacting with DNA substrate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\"
